Blowing Rock Winterfest

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Grab your gear and head for the Blue Ridge Parkway, where celebrations of its 75th anniversary abound. Use our NC pet friendly lodging as a home base, and explore the parkway and all it has to offer this year.

The Blowing Rock Winterfest will be fun.

The Blowing Rock Winterfest will be fun.

First up is the Blowing Rock Winterfest, January 28-31, 2010. Just about an hour from our cabins, the 12th annual Blowing Rock Winterfest is guaranteed to plunge you into good times. The fearless (or foolish?) will take the Polar Plunge into frigid Chetola Lake. Then they’ll have to wait until nightfall to warm themselves by the bonfire in Memorial Park.

Watch professional ice carvers magically bring forth art from ice. Enjoy a nostalgic hay ride. Take the Chili Challenge, and cool your mouth with wine tasting.

Sounds fun, doesn’t it? So be spontaneous and call our NC cabins today!

Long Romantic Weekends

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Romantics are in heaven, for this year, Valentine’s Day falls during President’s Day Weekend. That means one more day for lovebirds to have together. It also makes it easy for said lovebirds to fly away for the weekend.

May we humbly suggest a romantic weekend at our Blue Ridge Mountains lodge?

We have cozy one-bedroom loft cabins, ideal for couples. These are pet-friendly cabins, so you are welcome to travel with your pooch and free yourself from the hassle of boarding him/her. From this home base you can head out for a day of skiing or hiking. Or perhaps you prefer more leisurely activities, such as antiquing or visiting NC wineries. No matter how you choose to spend your days, remember to leave time for lazy mornings together.

Painted Sky

Nature's contribution to romance.

Perhaps you want to get together with a group of couples. Sharing lodging can make travel more affordable and even more festive. Our NC lodge can house quite a large group comfortably. Explore the region with your beau/belle during the day, and come together in the evening. The spacious kitchen is easy to work in – take turns cooking for each other, or see how many cooks can fit in the kitchen at once!

Visit the Frescoes

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

The next time you are staying at our Glendale Springs vacation cabins, take time to visit the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. When in West Jefferson, stop by St. Mary’s. Also known as the Church of the Frescoes, these lovely little churches are home to four impressive frescoes by artist Ben Long.

Ben Long has had a long, distinguished career. He learned the art of frescoes while an apprentice of Maestro Pietro Annigoni in Florence, Italy, where he worked for almost eight years.

In 2001, Mr. Long was awarded the prestigious Arthur Ross Award for Excellence in the Classical Tradition. His frescoes can be seen throughout the United States and in Italy.

So take a little time to see these frescoes during your next trip to our Blue Ridge Parkway cabins. It’s the next best thing to traveling to Italy.

Sis Tearing It Up - Part 3

There is great skiing near our Blue Ridge Cabins

January is traditionally filled with the best intentions. The holidays are behind us, we’ve said farewell to extended family, and the children are back at school. It’s not uncommon to feel a little blue during the short days and long nights, but we combat those feelings by making resolutions. We resolve to exercise more, work more diligently, and spend quality time with our families.

We can’t help with all of those, but we can help you create quality time with the family at our Blue Ridge Parkway cabins.

Do the kids like to ski or snow tube? Our North Carolina cabins are close to several ski mountains. You can plan for several weekend trips and explore a different resort each time. Go tubing at Hawksnest one weekend – said to have the largest snow tubing park on the east coast – and head to Appalachian Ski Mountain for some late night skiing another weekend.

Back at the Blue Ridge Mountains cabins, warm yourselves with hot cocoa, huddle around a campfire, or gather together for a family game night. We have several pet friendly cabins, so you can bring your best friend, too.

This is the kind of New Year’s Resolution that is worth keeping. Enjoy your children while they are home to enjoy.
